• He's keen to get them playing live in ridiculously short time frames
• He's keen that playing live is seen not to be scary. That someone who is on the edge of their ability has the audience right behind them – more so than for someone we all know can play.
• He's particularly keen to infect the youngsters of his adopted town, Newburgh with the musical bug & get them playing their chosen music & instrument in bands & becoming self sufficient.
• He's keen on developing listening skills, something which is central to musical communication
• He's ambitious about getting whole families playing together – in particular, across 3 (or more!) generations
• He's confident that Newburgh will have a talent show every year or even every 6 months which will be the highlight of the Newburgh calendar
• He's sure these talent Concerts currently held at the Steeple will have to be relocated to the TICC through demand for tickets

The less one uses 'the dots', the better one gets at playing by ear. One doesn't help the other. If you never read, or can't read, you have the best potential to be superb at playing by ear. If one has the confidence to believe one can play by ear, one has the opportunity to eclipse the confidence of those who can only read.
